Check Out the VII Sea Turtle Festival at Playa Platanitos in July
The VII Sea Turtle Festival is coming up soon. While you’re staying at Villa Estrella, you have the perfect opportunity to take a day trip out to Playa Platanitos. This annual festival takes place on the beautiful coastal town on the Riviera Nayarit. It has a number of different objectives on top of being fascinating and fun.
The VII Sea Turtle Festival is the flagship event of the town. This year is the seventh year of the annual event. It’s meant to promote the preservation and care of the environment with a specific focus on sea turtles.
The VII Sea Turtle Festival: When and Where
Playa Platanitos is the home of the VII Sea Turtle Festival. It was organized by the Platanitos Ecológico AC. It will be held from July 20 through July 21. These dates are chosen because it is right at the prime of sea turtle release season. Conveniently, it is also in the middle of the summer holidays, meaning that it is available to many local and international visitors.
Though the festival places the spotlight on the sea turtles and their release, it also includes a number of different types of activities. These include different types of cultural, artistic and sports activities. As a result, there’s certain to be something for every member of the family, no matter their interests.
This Year’s Day 1 Program
This year, the VII Sea Turtle Festival organizers have taken extra care to create an exciting program for everyone in attendance. This family friendly event will be packed with activities the entire time.
The event opening is on the Saturday at 5:30 pm. This event is large enough to bring municipal, state and tourism authorities together to be present. Special guests will also be there, all of whom can be seen a half hour after the opening at a cultural and artistic forum. The evening progresses with a traditional beauty contest so that the festival’s queen can be named and crowned for the remainder of the event. That night is brought to a conclusion with a gorgeous firework display and a popular dance featuring live music.
Day 2 Program
The next day, things take off with an early start. The event’s fishing tournament launches at 6:00 am. There’s a cycling route called “Vuelta a Platanitos” that starts at 7:00 am. Moreover, at 11:00 am, there is an ecological tour of Playa Platanitos to Punta Custodio – right near your home away from home at Villa Estrella! At noon, the swimming competition begins.
In the afternoon, enjoy a Fair-Entrepreneur Expo and additional activities and competitions such as a stick encebado, a mechanical bull, and a cultural forum to bring the festival to a close. Prizes are all awarded that evening at 6:30 and another dance begins at 8:00 pm with live music. Even better? All the events at the VII Sea Turtle Festival is free!
