Make Sure You Meet the Mexico Entry Requirements for Your Next Vacation
Mexico entry requirements for citizens of the United States and Canada traveling as tourists are very easy to obtain. Anyone from those countries visiting as a tourist requires only valid passports and must complete entry forms. These forms are readily available at travel agencies. The Migratory Form for Foreign Tourists, Transmigrants, Business Visitors or Councilor Visitors is typically the right option.
Tourists visiting from other countries, usually face additional Mexico entry requirements. Therefore, it is recommended that you contact the Mexican Consulate from your country of citizenship to discover how to obtain the right visas and/or other documentation. To be able to qualify for a visa the consulate will require you to present a current passport, proof of sufficient economic means for the length of time you plan to stay in the country, and the processing fee’s proof of payment.
Mexico Entry Requirements for Length of Stay
Mexico entry requirements typically extend to the length of time a tourist is allowed to stay in the country. Usually, this length of time is up to 180 days. If you believe you will need more time than that, you will need to speak to your local Mexican consulate to see if it is possible for the additional time to be added to your visa.
Mexico Entry Requirements for Processing Fees
Processing fees differ depending on the way you enter the country. The Mexico entry requirements for processing fees are usually included in your plane ticket if you enter by air. The amount is currently around $22 and is worked right into the ticket so you don’t have to worry about paying an additional fee beyond that amount.
That said, if you travel by land, then you will need to pay the fee during your stay so that when you depart it can be validated. That said, if you enter the country by land, you are only charged the processing fee if you stay in the country for more than seven days. If your vacation is shorter than a week, then you are exempt from these Mexico entry requirements.
The 3 Mexico Entry Requirements Documents
To visit the country without any hitches at the border, make sure you have the following three documents handy:
- Your valid passport
- Your FMT (Tourist or Business), FM2 or FM3 Form, as applicable
- Your Customs Declaration Form
These are very important documents, so make sure to make 3 photocopies of each one in case they are lost or stolen. Keep one copy with you but separate from the originals, give one copy to a traveling companion you trust and leave one copy at home with an emergency contact. Taking a picture of the documents with a phone you’re bringing with you can also be very helpful in the case of loss or theft.
