The Lonely Planet Take on the Riviera Nayarit
In a recent Lonely Planet post on the Riviera Nayarit, the location was described as a “microcosm of so many things that make traveling in Mexico great.” That’s precisely why this hidden gem is rapidly becoming a top destination in the country.
The Lonely Planet listed some of the things they love the most about traveling to Riviera Nayarit, including:
- The gorgeous beaches
- Incredible friendly towns
- Delicious food directly from the sea
- Mezcal
Moreover, with the solid and maintained highway system that runs along the state’s coast, it is easy to get around whether you’re driving, or you have hired a driver. The feel of the place is quite laid-back and informal, making it a lovely place to go when you’re hoping for a relaxing, luxurious vacation.
What Shouldn’t You Miss?
The travel guide post offered a tremendous list of different locations and sites along the state’s coastline that shouldn’t be missed. The following are some of the ones you might have missed if the spotlight hadn’t been placed on them.
- San Francisco (also known as San Pancho) – Don’t miss this gorgeous coastal town that is home to about 3,000 people. Its main stretch leads you right to the ocean, but before you get there, make sure to stop at many of the shops along the way. - Sayulita – This beach town has caught the eye of tourists, so you definitely won’t be the only out-of-towner in the area when you visit. That said, it still maintains its authenticity and offers a spectacular night life. This is also a great place to rent a board and take some surfing lessons.
- San Blas – San Blas is a relaxed fishing town that also happens to be a vibrant city and the place to go if you love birdwatching. The town dates back to the 1700s when it was established as a Spanish shipping port. Today, it boasts a friendly downtown and stunning beaches, too.
The Lonely Planet also reminded its readers that the Riviera Nayarit is always holding events, so it’s important to check out what’s going on before you plan your trip.
